Today we walked into court to be appointed as guardians for Ethan. For those who don’t know, when someone turns 18 the law recognizes them as an adult, capable of making their own decisions. But for families like ours, the story looks very different. Because of Ethan’s medical journey including two brain surgeries this process had to be put on hold, and now, at 22, we are finally here.

The guardianship process is not just paperwork. It’s standing before a judge, answering questions about your own child as though you’re being asked to prove your love and your role. At one point, I felt like I wasn’t his mother in that courtroom it’s a strange and heavy feeling that only those walking this road can understand. You know in your heart you’ve cared for every detail of their life, yet the system still reminds you that you’re not fully in control.

It’s stressful, emotional, and humbling. But after the questions, after the nerves, we were granted guardianship. Today reaffirmed that while this journey is filled with challenges, we continue to fight, stand tall, and ensure Ethan has the care, protection, and love he deserves.

Because that’s what it means to be his parent, his voice, and now officially, legally his guardians. 💜🧩
