Independent self-direction services empower individuals with disabilities to take control of their own lives. Instead of following a one-size-fits-all program, self-direction gives people the freedom to design supports that match their unique needs, goals, and dreams. With guidance from trusted staff, families, and brokers, individuals can choose the services, classes, activities, and community experiences that matter most to them.
Self-direction is about building independence, promoting choice, and fostering inclusion. It helps people gain skills for daily living, explore employment, enjoy hobbies, connect socially, and live meaningful lives—on their own terms.

Wendy helps you and your family create a personalized support plan through OPWDD’s Self-Direction program. She’ll guide you in building your team, managing your budget, and choosing the services that truly fit your life. From finding the right staff to navigating paperwork, Wendy makes the process easier, more empowering, and centered around your unique needs.
What is Infiniate-Hearts-Initiave?
The Infinite Heart Initiative creates inclusive, sensory friendly spaces where individuals of all abilities and their families can feel safe, supported, and connected. Through wellness workshops, creative expression events, and community gatherings, at the Autismo Cafe in Middletown, we provide opportunities to build friendships, explore new skills, and experience joy together. Rooted in compassion and belonging, our nonprofit is dedicated to making sure every person has a place to shine, share, and thrive.
